Wall Sculpture

Sue Freda B.(1974) a renowned sculptor and designer, draws inspiration from a fascination with the natural world and a reverence traditionally female centered craft techniques. She works with the dress form, elements of fashion, and oceanic and botanical references to explore ornament, architecture and beauty and the role these can play in contemporary life.
Her mixed media work is created in a very deliberate way, beguiling its whimsical and improvisational appearance.  The paints are mixed by hand and pigments added, never straight from a tube. Her mixed media work incorporates similar three-dimensional materials as used in her sculptural work, forming a vocabulary of symbols that tell a story, each chosen for specific characteristics and meanings. There is an exciting ongoing dialogue in which the prints, mixed media, and sculptures are continually referencing each other.

Freda has made site-specific installations for public institutions, designers, international brands, and private collections. Her work is has been collected by Sir Elton John, Jane Bryant Quinn, The Italo American Museum, Cirque Du Soleil, Fidelity Investments and Meditech.  She has received numerous grants and awards, most namely a Pollock- Krasner Foundation Award, Numerous RI State Council on the Arts Artists Grant, and a De Young Artists in Residence Award.
